In 1926 the Bishop of London decided that the dedication of the church was to St Magnus of Orkney, whose feast day is 16 April. However, the church dates from the early 11th century – before the death of that saint – and the patronal festival was celebrated on 19 August throughout the Middle Ages. It is likely that the original patron was St Magnus of Anagni and the feast was introduced into the calendar in England by Adrian of Canterbury https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adriano_di_Canterbury in the 7th century.
